Bringing a child into this world should be celebrated and not frowned upon, especially by your employer. As such, California has enacted a statutory scheme to protect pregnant employees throughout the pregnancy process.
If your employer has five or more employees, your pregnancy, childbirth and/or related condition are protected under California law. Under these circumstances, California law mandates that you obtain reasonable accommodations and time off from work. California law also prohibits your employer from firing, refusing to hire, harassing, or otherwise discriminating against someone because of pregnancy, childbirth or related condition.
